Snehodiya

Snehodiya is a purpose-built senior living complex developed by the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBHIDCO) as a social commitment to offer independent yet assisted living for the elderly. The complex spans approximately 3.5 acres and includes a G+10 main tower and a two-storey guest house. Every floor has landscaped sky gardens, and the 9th and 10th floors feature large sky decks. There are 147 residential units in total, including 90 single-bed and 57 double-bed units. The facility is fully barrier-free, with elevators sized for stretchers, ramps, and wide corridors for accessibility. Security deposits are ₹25 lakh (plus taxes) for single units and ₹45–₹50 lakh for double units, depending on the floor (premium units on the 9th and 10th floors incur higher costs). Monthly charges are ₹16,000 plus tax per resident, which covers food, beverages, and common services and increases by 5% annually. Allotment is conducted through a lottery system, with a ₹1 lakh application fee. Medical screening, interviews, and AADHAR documentation are mandatory.

Amenities

Residents benefit from regular doctor visits, an in-house physician and nurse, a 24×7 emergency medical department with a defibrillator, and ambulance on call. There is a physiotherapy room, daily visits by a therapist, and routine blood pathology tests every six months. A nutritionist plans a vegetarian menu, with eggs and Sunday treats available on request. Most produce is sourced from an on-campus  organic garden. The physiotherapy centre includes hydrotherapy, a yoga studio, and a pay-per-use gym. Meals include bed tea, breakfast, lunch, evening snacks, dinner, and warm milk at night. A central kitchen prepares meals, which are served in dining areas on each floor and in a large communal hall. Each unit has a dry pantry and an electric kettle. Rooms and bathrooms are cleaned daily; common areas are cleaned twice daily. Linen is changed weekly, and pest control is done as needed. Laundry services are available at subsidised rates, although washing, drying, and ironing are not allowed in rooms. Security features include 24/7 guards, CCTV coverage, barbed wire fencing, fire-detection systems, public address systems, and emergency call bells in bathrooms. Full DG power backup is provided for all services except air conditioning and refrigerators. Residents enjoy access to sky gardens, walking paths, and membership to Senior’s Park. Each floor has lounges with TVs, reading areas, and games. There’s a board games room, AV room for movie screenings, yoga and meditation sessions, celebrations for birthdays and festivals, and musical  and cultural events. Daily newspapers and current journals are provided. A broadband-enabled web station is available for video calls. Residents can also teach underprivileged children, work in the garden, or join social-purpose activities. Club amenities include a treadmill gym, carrom, chess, cards, and senior-friendly exercise equipment. The complex is equipped with 24-hour generator backup, Wi-Fi, intercom systems, nurse and attendant rooms on every floor, a utility and medicine shop, a tuck-shop, and visitor parking. A two-storey guest house accommodates family members. An on-site management team handles all maintenance and repair needs. Residents receive free routine checks, monthly visits by a geriatric physician, and 24/7 emergency ambulance service. Optional paid services are available through providers and include individual laundry, advanced physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, specialised care, and more.

Accommodation

The Snehodiya complex consists of 147 fully furnished residential units: 90 single-bedroom and 57 double-bedroom units. Accommodation is spread as follows:

All units are air-conditioned and include a ceiling fan, wall-mounted flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi, and intercom. Bedrooms are furnished with coir-foam mattresses, bedside tables and lamps, wardrobes, wall-mounted dressing tables, and sofas or dining tables and chairs. Each unit has a dry pantry with an electric kettle, a provision for a small refrigerator, an attached balcony, and two-way light switches. Bathrooms come with Kohler fittings, anti-skid tiles, hot-water geysers, shower cubicles, grab bars, and emergency call switches. Each floor has a central lounge, common pantry with a fridge and microwave, storage area, and rooms for nurses and attendants. Landscaped sky gardens are provided on each level, with rooftop gardens on the premium floors. The layout is fully Vaastu-compliant and accessible via elevators. Staff quarters are integrated into each floor.
