Little Sisters of the Poor Home for Aged

The Little Sisters of the Poor is a global religious congregation founded in 1839 by Saint Jeanne Jugan. Guided by a mission of compassion and dignity, they welcome elderly individuals who are poor, abandoned, or destitute regardless of caste, creed, or religion and care for them with food, clothing, shelter, medical relief, love, and devotion through the final stages of life. Today, they operate in over 32 countries, including multiple locations in India which includes Bangalore Perpetual Secours, Bangalore St Joseph, Coonoor, Erode, Goa, Mumbai, Mysore, Sawantwadi, Chennai, Guntur, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Mangalore, Secunderabad and Tuticorin with the support of a community that extends beyond the Sisters themselves.

Amenities

In every home, the atmosphere is intentionally warm and family-like, where residents, Sisters, staff, volunteers, associates, and benefactors share in creating a caring environment. Residents receive three nourishing meals each day, along with refreshments in between. Volunteers and associates offer their time regularly, while benefactors contribute through financial support, meal sponsorships, and donations of provisions, toiletries, and other essentials. This blend of personal attention and community generosity ensures that residents feel valued and cared for in every aspect of daily life. Medical care at the homes is comprehensive and personalized. A dedicated Little Sister Nurse oversees the medical unit, ensuring residents receive regular consultations and check-ups. Doctors visit frequently and remain on call for emergencies, providing peace of mind for both residents and their families. An on-site pharmacy keeps essential medicines and medical accessories readily available, while a well-equipped physiotherapy unit supports elderly residents in managing age-related aches, pains, and mobility challenges. A visiting physiotherapist provides tailored exercises and treatments, helping residents maintain comfort, health, and independence as much as possible.
